3DFighters Review

Pros: Well done game with entertaining gameplay and a longer lasting value than many other, similar games.
Cons: Little to do but shoot with no goals, rather confusing view, and a lack of any music or variety in the design.
Interesting...
Grahpics: What graphics there are are done well, and suit the game. The blurring is a bit disconcerting at first, but it doesn't detract much from gameplay. To bring the graphics up another notch, more variety in color would help to flesh the game out more, and perhaps some backgrounds in any blank space outside of the "arena" area, or whatever you wish to call it.
Sound: The game could use a bit of background music somewhere. It gets too repetitive hearing the same shots and explosions over and over again. The effects that are there work well, however.
Gameplay: To start off, yes, the game is fun to play. However, it is lacking in any sort of goals or advancements. You shoot red things. That's it. You can sit in one place and shoot them. I must therefore give this a 3/5 in the gameplay category until some more elements are added to spice up the game and make it more action-packed and interesting--different kinds of enemies, other dangers, and perhaps a more varied arena to fight in. I would say that it is leaning very close to a 4/5, and I would give three and a half stars if I could.
Story: This was mentioned in the gameplay section, but it could stand repeating: goals and advancement are necessary to make the fun last. It can't just be shoot and shoot and shoot the same things over and over and over again.
Interface: I found moving the player very difficult at first, but soon got used to the odd control scheme. The default key mappings are standard and work well. The issue that I saw was that it is hard to tell exactly where the player is facing. The targeting reticle should be in front of the player, exactly here they will shoot, to make this aspect easier. It was also hard having such a low angled viewpoint. This was compensated for somewhat by the transparent walls, but it still made things a bit more difficult to control.
Scoring the game overall was very difficult. There are parts that excel, and parts that are sorely lacking and need improvement. My ideal score would be 3.5, but the system does not allow it. I must therefore stick to a three, unfortunately. The average rating for the game that is shown, a 3.5, is something that I would agree with. It would not take much to bump this up to a 4, and with more work and additions, this could most definitely reach a 5.
