ZERO Review

Pros: good graphics -- good charging of the shot -- well-preserved sounds -- well-made wall-jump, if a little fast sliding down
Cons: spanish writing -- nightmarish controls -- too hard -- pays homage to x3 a LITTLE too much
ZERO
GRAPHICS -- almost completely preserved from mega man x3. good job with the "charging" animation. also, good job with the writing in the beginning and the title screen, almost exactly like from the early x series. 5 stars.
SOUND -- again, the sound is almost all from x3. however, this may not always be a good thing, especially with the music... 4 stars.
GAMEPLAY -- this is where it really starts to go downhill. not only do the enemies attack you when they are off the screen, it is REDICULOUSLY easy to scroll them back on to the screen when you're jumping or something to avoid another attack. also, the enemies do a huge amount of damage to you, considering your low health bar, and almost never drop health pellets, which are never seen lying around stages. not as hard as some of the worst in the series - x3, x6, and x7, namely - but still hard enough to bring down the rating. 2 stars.
STORY -- since the story in the opening sequence was in spanish, i couldn't understand it very well. but from what i could make out from the words that were close enough to english, x has gone missing, dr. doppler is back, and zero has to go rescue him (x, not dr. doppler). however, i could be wildly wrong, and it could be a story about pink fluffy bunnies. it could even be worth 6 stars. but since im unsure as to the story, i left this blank and it didnt affect the overall. no rating.
INTERFACE -- alright, i have to say it-the interface is perhaps the worst part of this game. the movement controls (the arrow keys) are easy enough, but they are so close to the other controls that i find my hands getting in eachother's way. when you use numpad 4 to jump and numpad 5 to shoot, you may find yourself shooting instead of jumping when you are at 1 health and either getting hit by an explosive bullet or falling onto an enemy. also, i havent even figured out yet where the dash control is. (edit: yes i have, dash is 6.) 1 star.
OVERALL -- despite its setbacks, this is probably the best x series game on the site. (the title of best mega man game in general, of course goes to hard hat 2). with beautiful x3 graphics and sounds, and the best charging mechanism i have yet seen on yoyo, this game has a lot of potentiall. now if only it wasnt in spanish... 3 stars.
