Metroid Prime 2D Echoes Demo Review
By ronny14 on
14 February 2010
Pros: Effort, graphics, game play, translation of the original game to 2D.
Cons: Some un- smoothness, odd graphics, room tiling.
Keep It Coming
Alright, since I wasnt able to get this review in on time, basically... here it is.
GRAPHICS
___________________________________________
Samus was very well animated, HUD and menu looked fresh, nice transitions. What brought this down you ask? The tiling. The tiling were repetitive bars. I normally hate using my games as examples, but take a look at Sylin Mission. Instead of having all of that blank space everywhere, I tried to fill in the area all around with my tileset. Other than that everything was in place and in order, and played at a good speed.
SOUND
___________________________________________
Nothing wrong here. There are plenty of them, all in place and used appropriately.
GAMEPLAY
___________________________________________
*note that I split this topic into subcategories as I believe this is the most important part of the game*
CONTROL-
This was a good part. Because the original game was designed for free- aim, a mouse aim works best. But, some buttons seem all over the place. Im not saying how to fix that, let alone if you should even fix it, just pointing it out.
FUN FACTOR
What's not fun about Metroid? Now Im not gonna be biased, so here what I have to say. It is very well put together, and it is pretty fun blasting enemies around the place. I got a sense of excitement in the dark world, it was pretty good there.
DIFFICULTY
A good balance of easy and hard, but occasionally to easy.
GENERAL
Controls were well put together. In the game, some things were a little unnecessary, especailly the speed of the dark world draining your energy. You might want to lower that, because it may seem to easy for you, but keep in mind, because you made the game, you know what will happen, making it seem too easy for you. Other than that, it is pretty good.
STORY
___________________________________________
Because you didnt make the story, I have nothing to review it for.
OVERALL

You still have things to work on, but dont give up because of minimal activity or oddities.
Sorry for getting the review in so late.

The damage in the dark world in this game is the same amount of damage you get in the original game.
About 5 damage a second.

Also could you give me an example of a place where the tiles don't meet your satisfication level, I wouldn't know where to start.

If you mean buttons are all over the place I assume the only one you could be talking about is the arrow keys which allow you to switch visors. Well that's only if you don't have a mouse because the initial way to switch visors is to click the middile button on the mouse

The controls were meant to be played with your left hand on the WSAD and your Right Hand doing all the aiming and shooting and stuff. The right hand is not itended to touch the keyboard (unless in the menu) and the Left hand never touches the mouse unless your left handed. I wanted to make the game laptop friendly by adding mouse only buttons on to the keyboard (visors, beams). It's ok for the late review, I know you're busy and I'm pretty busy as well so I understand.
