Super Mario Comics Review
By Testament on
24 September 2007
Pros: The art is cute. The story is very classic Mario with a lot of fun mini adventures to compliment the whole story
Cons: Parts of the strip are somewhat difficult to make out.
Mario Does It Again
NOTE - This is not a game, which is why it is listed under "Other" and I understand that. This review is in regards to the comic.

I liked the art. It was simplistic, but so is Mario, so you can't expect too much. I think that a comic done for the Mario Universe in a Todd McFarlane or Alex Ross style would take away from the Universe and the whimsical nature of what Mario is about. The art doesn't have a lot of color depth, but what they do use is bright and reflects the world in which its meant to represent. My only major problem is perhaps, in some instances, the outlines are very heavy.

The story isn't anything extremely variant from what we know about the Mario Universe. Princess is kidnapped by the King of the Koopas, Bowser. The story does have a lot of adventure to it and some twists here or there. I liked it, there were things I didn't see coming that, while in the games would obviously not work, give a lot of nice clean humor.

I user the Interface rating for the comic layout, and this is an extremely easy comic to read. The content rarely extends out of the boxes, so the artist of the comics did not try to be artistic with the style as far as layout goes. It's to the point and clean, which is how I personally like it.

It's an official Mario Comic that was originally featured in Nintendo Power. I actually happen to own a physical copy of the comic, so I knew about it long before this was created, however it was nice to see it again and relive the fun I had originally when I first read it. If you're expecting some serious plot or graphic detail, then you're going to be let down, but if you understand that the Mario Universe is a whimsical universe filled with odd creatures and over-the-top heroes and villains then you're in for a pleasant journey to Mario's world!
