Modern Warfare 2D Review
By Vlaeder on
23 July 2010
Pros: Easy to learn controls, simple gameplay, pretty good effects (water sparkle, flames, explosions)
Cons: Sections of the levels change over too fast, barely giving the player a chance to see the screen before missiles and gunfire rain on their position, story isn't clear.
Modern Warfare 2D - Vlaeder's Review
Graphics - The graphics were for the most part low quality compared to what they could've been. However, they worked just fine, allowing for a high FPS. The best graphics were by far the effects, such as rocket trails, explosions, and fire, to name a few. The stick-figure style of the player and enemies provided some humor, while still retaining a semi-serious look.
Sound - For the most part, the sound was pretty good. My headphones didn't have to be removed nearly as often as other games, meaning the sound didn't stack too terribly or go chaotic. However, when looping the music, there was a downtime of around 2-3 seconds where there was no sound, cutting the drama in half on some levels.
Gameplay - The controls were easy to pick up and use effectively, allowing the player to focus on things other than hitting the right key while dodging hails of gunfire. However, the sections of levels changed too rapidly, barely giving the player a chance to see the screen or controls before missiles and gunfire rain on their position, as well as causing many crashes into rocks and trees.
Story - The story was rather unclear for someone who hasn't played Modern Warfare. For the most part, the story was in the objectives rather than the actual game.
Interface - There wasn't really much of one, but it was simple. However, it could have been located in a more convenient location, like the bottom center of the screen.
Overall - With a few minor changes, possibly an upgrade on graphics as well as providing more in depth story, this could become one of the top shooting games on YoYoGames.
A side note: After working out the kinks mentioned above, adding multiplayer may be the next step to make this game climb to the top.
