RAGE (DEMO) Review

Pros: A sense of completion in the game (even if it's just a demo), somewhat enjoyable, good sound effects
Cons: Graphics mediocre, repetitive music, still very "GameMaker"-ized (see review for elaboration)
A fun but basic platformer with some polish
"Rage" is a basic platformer in which you have to shoot green goo monsters on a planet you've crash landed on, while solving relatively simple puzzles to get through each level.
It's clear the creator has spent some time polishing the game and making sure each level is different and progresses along with the storyline. I was surprised to find myself somewhat enjoying shooting the creatures, and I think the sound effects and cute effects contributed to this. The little green slugs 'squeak' when you shoot them and bounce around. What wasn't so surprising was the mediocre visuals (clearly put together in MS Paint), repetitive music (however a good listen for the first 1 or 2 repeats), and the fact it still seemed very much like a Game Maker game. Use of show_message techniques found too often in tutorials and other platformers made it obvious I was playing a Game Maker game. What's wrong with that, you ask? Nothing, directly - but to me, a game that manages to look more than a gamemaker game has had some serious polish.
