Guns and Spurs Review
By Kristallify on 23 May 2011

Pros: -Very original considering the circumstances (despite dispelling the look-a-like syndrome). -Variety of game modes. -Collectibles -Available modes of transportation (horses) -Variety of weapons. -Variety of ways to achieve success during gameplay. -

Cons: -Game is rather short. -Lack of dialogue during the story. Only beginning and end contain extended elements of the story. -Some of the sheriffs and cowboys lack A.I.

"Guns and Spurs"

"Take the role of Johnny, a lonely cowboy in the wild west,
thirsty to take revenge for the death of his wife.
Run with your horse in an open world filled with action and freedom."

Sure that storyline has been used time and time again, but...nothing to this extent has been seen at YoyoGames. Sakisa25-Games has popped out another sure-fire hit for the community, and it's a classic.

The first that will call your attention is the graphics. The horse animations are fairly-well done. Johnny's concrete-grimmacing face never ceases to change. The towns are well-littered with shopkeepers and common residents.

The next thing you hear is the crisp sounds of the game. This, I feel, is the most-underestimated feature of the game. From the hoof-beats of your trusty steed to the echo your twin revolvers slicing through the coarse skin of your enemy. The stagnant music track is subtle, but it sets the stage for the entire game.

The game moves quite smoothly. You'll gallop from one town to another without any trouble thanks to your map. Tumbleweeds and commoners will cross your vision and the occasional group of cowboys you don't want to cross. Boss battles are well designed with two separate parts. Just reducing your enemies health to zero isn't enough in Guns and Spurs. Whoever has the quickest draw will win the battle.

As mentioned above, this story has been seen before. I really wished for more interaction on behalf of the story. Maybe a few twists and turns in common dialogue could have really got your gears spinning.

The overall interface is solid. Your weapons display will keep you informed onto what your wielding at all times and will NOT fade. The map works extremely well as mentioned. And if you're lost, the map can be seen at an even greater view with a simple push-and-hold of a button.

In conclusion, if you haven't played this yet, play it now. This will definitely stay as a staple for what free-roaming games should be.

"Guns and Spurs" by Sakis25-Games gets a well deserved: FOUR out of FIVE.
