Escendophobia Review

Pros: Funny, clever, fun, simple e.t.c.
Cons: repetitive music, lacks varied gameplay.
We are all scared of ladders
Escendophobia is a clever and fun platformer, with plenty of challenging levels.
In it, you play a guy who has Escendophobia (A.K.A fear of ladders).
Graphics: the character design is really good, and the background graphics
are great too. You'll probably notice a few "ladders are our friends" posters,
and markings on the wall of other people who are fearful of ladders, which
really adds to the humour of the game. 4/5
Sound: The music is alright, but it gets a bit annoying and repetitive.
If there was just music, this game would get a 3 in the sound department,
but luckily, there were 2 sound effects: The sound of your guy breathing in and out,
and the roar of the ladders as they transform into monsters. Those two sound
effects may not sound like much, but they really add a lot of depth to the
game. 4/5
Gameplay: The first thing you'll probably notice about the gameplay is that
the main character cant jump very high, the second thing you'll notice about it
is that he doesnt need to be able to jump very high. Most of the time in this game
you'll be walking, jumping, breathing in, closing your eyes and climbing ladders.
This is probably the first game i have ever played that the main characters main abilitys
are to breath in and close his eyes. The main character is absolutely terified of ladders,
so you have to breath in while you walk past them, and every now and then the ladders
transform into crazy monsters, so you have to close the main characters eyes to stop the
illusion and turn the ladders back to normal. to climb ladders, you have to take happy pills,
which make you invinsable to ladders, but once you climb a ladder the pill wears off.
The gameplay is really clever and fun, but the gameplay isnt very varied, so after a
while it gets really repetitive, and the difficulty seems to jump around randomly. 4/5
Story: The story is that you are a man named Travis, and you have Escendophobia,
which is the fear of ladders (and monkeys aparently) . You go to your doctor, and he tells you that
you have to take a test to remove your fear of ladders. The storyline itself is genious, but it is the
way that it is told that makes it so good, Plus, the ending is hilarious. 5/5
Interface: The main menu is simple, and good. The controls are overall pretty good,
but there are minor glitches every now and then. 4/5
Overall: A fun game with a clever concept, that is definately worth your time. 4/5
