MyKaryotes itself is now open-source; please refer to that if you would like more advanced features to start with. I still consider Lifebase simpler for beginners to work with, however.

more random, if new actions are to be learned. They would have to try out random actions and record if they gained a positive effect or not, and then be able to decide when to repeat that action. The hardest part would be programming the random actions without giving preset actions to try.

It sounds like you are now trying to implement artificial intelligence. Nice! But it is up to you as to what to do with the game. I may not know as much on this as you might, but could "free thought" be implemented in the form of emotions governed by survival instincts, or as something random in nature?

i thought it was fine. i'm trying to give the cells creative thinking, but i don't think it's possible. I got the learning from experiences part down, but how to give them free thought? i think i'm going in the wrong direction with this game
