Laser Control Review

Pros: Very well designed, good concept, good learning curve.
Cons: Sounds are realtively simplistic, story is unnecesary, couple spelling errors.
Addictive and Challenging.
Most puzzle games are arcade style-just keep playing, as it gets faster or more variety of objects are added. They require no thinking, and are very common. *Cough*Bejeweled*Cough*
This game is different. Rather than moving as fast as possible to finish, you really need to think of what you are doing - it's about completion, not score. You start in a room full of lasers, things that redirect the lasers, and various other objects. Some of the things that redirect the lasers are needed, and some aren't. Here comes the kicker: once you do something, it can't be undone. Fire the cannon? Well, too bad. Clicked a redirector that you needed? Boo hoo. Restart and try again. It allows no room for mistakes, and you really need to think before you act. Of course, there are a couple levels where you need to, using redirectors, have multiple beams going at once, and manipulate them to, for example, fire a cannon before the laser going towards the wall is used up. Even though you should still think before you act, this makes it like chess - you need to plan 3 moves ahead at some points. If not, you won't act fast enough.
There are a couple weak points - sound being one, and there are a couple spelling errors. However, they don't detract from the gameplay.
All in all, I believe this is what puzzle games should be about - make you think. And if you don't think, you will regret it. One of the best puzzle games on YoYo, and if 1ACE fixes the typos (just for a more professional feel), and maybe adds a couple more modes or improves the sound, it has potential to be featured. The concept is definately there, and if a version 2 is released that improves the VERY few weaknesses this game has, it could easily be sold on a download site, commercially. I wouldn't mind paying $10-$15 for it, especially if a random level generator, skill levels, or branching story (some level may have 2 objects you can hit with the laser, determining the next level you go to based on the playstyle you need to use to guide the laser to that point, maybe?) is added, which would definately improve the replayability. But as it is, it is very well designed, easy to learn, and tough to master. This game is a freeware game, but with a "commercial" quality concept.

Thanx... But with time I will learn to do things like that...

yeah, I was just throwing out ideas...a randomly generated level would be tough. But, it's still a great game, regardless.

Woah... no joke? well the typos shouldnt be that hard... but Im pretty sure the randomly generated levels will be hard to do...
