Pros: -Good multiplayer gameplay.
Cons: -Difficult to read text. -Slightly boring graphics.
Let's Shoot Some Circles
Squares VS Circles is an arcade shooter where you control a square shooting circles in order to make combos. There is a two-player mode available, and this is really the only reason to play this game as single player is fairly dull. Breakdown:
Graphics:
The game's graphics consist of all circles and a square for the player. The bullets are blocks as well. When an enemy circle is destroyed, it produces a white circular explosion. The graphics of the text, particularly in the beginning, are quite poor and sometimes difficult to read. If you like circles, you will like these graphics, but if you want something more artistic then this may not satisfy your needs.
** 2/6
Sound:
There is a single background track that does fit somewhat with the simplistic graphical scheme, but it becomes a bit annoying after some time. Some variety would improve the atmosphere greatly. There are appropriate sound effects
** 2/6
Gameplay:
The core part of the fun lies in its two-player mode, where players duke it out for better combos. Unfortunately though in single player it becomes fairly monotonous after some time just because nothing much happens except more circles appear. There are bullet upgrades, which add some spice, and for a few minutes it is enjoyable to target those circles and blast them to pieces for huge combinations. Yet because there is no real objective or progression, the gameplay can lose your attention, particularly if you're playing alone.
*** 3/6
Story:
No story.
* 1/6
Interface:
While the control are easy enough, the game starts off with a pretty unfortunate intro/menu which keeps asking the player to choose between different options that are somewhat difficult to read. At the actual title screen, its a bit odd selecting which mode you want to play in...I would suggest looking at some other games and emulating them to make it more user-friendly.
** 2/6
Overall:
Overall, Squares VS Circles isn't bad, but it lacks many attributes that make a game truly enjoyable for more than several minutes. The multiplayer aspect is the highlight of the gameplay and this should be expanded and brought to the forefront of the game. Unless the single player mode has more added, it remains pretty weak in comparison. This has potential, but it needs some work and attention.
** 2/6
