HAVOC Review
By stk5600 on 10 February 2011

Pros: Good selection of weapons. Map editor is great. Very addicting. Challenging AI players

Cons: No sound. No story, but its just an arena-based game, so add a small cinematic explaining "why" you are shooting each other in an arena.

Havoc Review

This is an awesome top-down shooter game. It has a great selection of weapons, please continue to make more. Either add name-brand weapons or just make up your own, that would be great. As far as the damage, most of the weapons are very balanced. The sniper rifle could do some more damage considering that the fire rate is as slow as it is. The shotgun might be more useful if either the bullets were grouped closer together, or if the firing rate is slightly increased. I found it difficult to kill an enemy by trying to hit them at 0 range, especially during a team battle with tons of enemies everywhere. Apart from all that, no weapon is better than the other, which is good.

Also, I loved the map editor. Very simple to use and the saving system uses text files, which is very nice if you want to share them with other people. It would be cool if you could "test" the map with solely your own player, in order to make sure that he moves around corners and gaps smoothly before actually playing against AI. The simplicity of the editor itself is ace.

The worst thing about it was that there is no sound at all. I know its a work in progress, so please continue to work on it. Add some sound effects and ambiance and it would be so much more fun to play. It would be great if the player could change his or her name instead of the default "Player" tag. Add plenty more customization options maybe such as AI intelligence, types of weapons they spawn with, health handicap, what color you want to be, maybe some different looking helmets, but I like the simplicity. All in all, this game has potential, its very addicting, and it would be amazingly fun to play online over LAN and/or TCP/IP connection. So, continue to update it. I look forward to playing it with more features.
