infinite cavern ~final build~ Review
By Trollsplatterer Moderator on 26 February 2011

Pros: Interesting concept, easy, nice music (though limited)

Cons: No story, limited variation, difficulty too low

Eternal digging

In this game you're placed in a cavern and you're supposed to dig your way through the walls to get to the treasures.

The concept is nice, but I believe it could be a better game if it contained more variation; more different enemies, traps, different walls...

The graphics are not that great, but that comes with the 8-bit layout.
The music is nice, though there are only two tunes and the same one is repeated over and over again. A few more tunes would be nice.
There's no story. Now I love games to come with a story, but some people don't care. It's up to you if you want to add one, I would smile
I don't mind the button location, I barely used the flash-thing, simply because the enemies barely got to me. If an enemy got to kill me, it was because the weapon didn't hit it (probably hit something else, or a different enemy). All you need are the directional buttons and the X-button.
The spacebar creates a projectile, but I still don't know what that does smile

I got to over $160.000 before I decided to return to the menu. The game is a bit too easy. The small enemies, the ones which do fit in 1-block-holes in the walls, are killed too easily, too slow and their numbers are too small to matter. Yes, it gets pretty hard once it's dark, but there are enough charges for the flares to prevent that from happening.
The bigger enemies are too easy to avoid.
I think you should be able to add quite a few enemy types without making the game too hard:
- Small, fast ones, which die easily
- Small, slow ones, which are harder to kill
- Enemies which can destroy blocks (slowly)
- Enemies that can fire projectiles towards you

A few traps would be nice too. Gas, for example, which is inflammable, walls which can't be destroyed, walls which blow up if destroyed...

So, I'd say this is a nice game, but it could be a lot better, which is why I'd keep it at 3 stars until then.

Thanks for the review! I'll take into account what you said and will try to use all of your ideas. The music will be a bit hard though because I used a trial of a music maker for the music, I'll see if there's a way around that.
