Phantasmaburbia WIP Review

Pros: story,gameplay,good looking enviroments,nice graphics,interesting dungeons,fun boss fights

Cons: reused sound effects, too little pick-ups,could need more interiors

Nice game.A few problems though...

First I'll say the good parts. It's an awesome game.I mean, the story is epic and the plot twists are interesting and luring the player more into the game.I like how you see the characters one by one. Can't wait for more. The fighting is fun and exciting, the powers are great and you feel the strenght through them.So are the boss fights with their unique powers. The graphics are really nice and the wolrd overall is amazing. It's really beautiful.I also get a kind of cartoon feeling which is nice but also a dark and grusome feeling which I love too.The dngeons till now are really great. You can either progress through it straight-forward or explore around and play at your own pace, fighting monsters ad ghosts. It's really nice cause I like exploring just as much as I like killing. And there is always something to find at one edge of the great puzzles or the other...
There are some flaws I found really bad though and I hope you can fix them.First of all,MAJOR FLAW,the sound effects. They are not bad,but they are not good either.I mean, they worked nice for dubloon but this game is supposed to be upgraded from its "engine" on many levels. And personally,I'm fed up with that repetitive "kapoof" when I hit something or the boring "cchhh" when I use magic. This is not what I'd expect from a dark background game and the sounds need enhancements in total.Or a complete reboot of the sound effect system if possible. And I personally believe that the game could do with a bit more interiors to explore.Either hidden or in plain sight,I'd like to explore park cabins or creepy huts in the night.I hope you know what I mean.Because it would give a whole new point to the exploration a player should do and I think you are trying to achieve just that.
I hope you found my review helpful whatsoever cause I don't have anythign else to say untill the next version comes out... big grin

The early parts of the game are purposefully more linear, as there's some time shenanigans between sections so I had to keep it fairly believably tight. But as the game continues there will be optional explorable areas, including many of the "mandatory" dungeons. I think you'll appreciate that.

I've been mening to retool the sonds for some time now. I'm not too good with sound design, and my sound guy is always quite busy, so it's tough to get good sfx and if it comes down to it I might end up releasing with these sounds. I'll see. I'd LIKE to change the sfx, for whatever that's worth.
