Super Rocket Man Review
By josh54 on 07 July 2011

Pros: Addicting fun gameplay, good movement idea, nice 8 bit feel, funny story, challenging, and has an online high score table!

Cons: The white meteors look like they're in the background, the idea's not very original, no sound effects besides music

Great!

You don't need a ton of effects, amazing graphics, 3D animation, or realistic sounds to make a good game. You need good gameplay. That's something the current game industry has forgotten as it continues to churn out a meaningless game after game of virtual eye-candy with no actual challenge or reason to play. Super Rocket Man is a REAL game that's actually focused on the gameplay just like any game should be.

With this game you find yourself zipping through space, steering to avoiding flying meteors while collecting points. You are given three lives, and when you get hit by a meteor, you explode into oblivion and get pushed back a bit. Collect as many points as possible and show your skill on the online high score table.

One of the good things about this game is that it's challenging. Each level progresses in difficulty, as new meteors with different colors try to demolish you in different ways. I liked how when you went out one side of the room, you came out the other. It was also a good idea to show the points on top of the meteors as you passed them, it shows the player they're accomplishing something and boosts their moral. I would also like to note that everything in this game is by Ronald Killer. The graphics, the music, the programming, everything. And all of it's done super well.

Now onto the graphics. As I said before, the graphics don't make a game by themselves, but they do help it. This game travels back in time to what an arcade game from the 19 eightees would have looked like. I thought this was a great idea. The only thing I didn't like was the white meteors travel at the same speed as the background, making it look like you're traveling over a sheet of paper. It's not really confusing, just not very exciting. The idea wasn't the most original around, but it makes a great arcade game!

In short, this is an entertaining, addicting, challenging game that you are bound to enjoy. I haven't been so addicted to a game in a long time.

Thanks for the review! There's not much I can do about the white asteroids, but I'll fix it if I can.
