Super Mario World Advanced Review

Pros: High-quality music; Nice artwork for Mario, Goombas, Tilesets; Oldschool gameplay
Cons: Unresponsive controls at times; Little variety; Too short
Fun Mario Game, Not Enough Variety
Super Mario World Advanced by Froodjakle is a fun platform game that has plenty of potential but falls a bit short in terms of its variety and longevity. As Mario, you'll run and jump through only a few levels, crushing Goombas and collecting coins. It's pretty standard fare for the first few levels of a Mario game, but the absence of tunnels, turtles, and Princess Peach somewhat hurt the game's "Mario" feel.
The graphics are surprisingly well done and all the animations are there. The Mario tilesets are also great, although the quality of the backgrounds can be inconsistent. The sound is pretty good as well, with oldschool sound effects and scores from Super Mario World and even Super Mario 64.
What really hurts the gameplay itself is the control. For the most part, the jumping height, speed, mid-air control, etc. are wonderfully done. The only problem is that sometimes Mario will seemingly get "stuck" in the ground momentarily, meaning that if you are planning on making a series of timed jumps (jumping each time you land), you'll occasionally land and not be able to jump until you get Mario "unstuck" by moving left and right. This can be very bothersome, especially if you are stuck in the ground and trying to make a crucial jump, only to never leave the ground and walk off the edge of a platform.
Don't let this scare you, though. Despite the fact that the game is a bit short and lacking in variety, the levels are designed surprisingly well and you'll have plenty of fun for the length of the game. This is more or less a tribute to Mario, and you won't have to spend all day bypassing dialogue and fiddling with learning the controls. Instead, your goal in this game is to run through each level, collect as many coins as you can, and crush any Goombas that get into your way.
Overall, this game is not bad at all. It's an excellent time waster and should quench the thirst of any Mario fans wanting to get a quick fix of one of gaming's most legendary figures. Hop right in, and have fun with Super Mario World Advanced.
"So long, King Bowser!"
