Psychosomnium Review
By Koyana Nuva on

Pros: Grand graphics with odd, but charming and somewhat funny storyline. Lots of possibilities and good quality in definining itself as a game.
Cons: Far too short. A game as high-quality as this deserves a higher score than this.
"Artsy Game With Lots of Awesome"
Intro:
It's 2:00 AM and I am reviewing Psychosomnium, by Cactus. Even if why I like this game would have to do with my apparantly late-stay-upping, I find this a very well-made game. This is one of the lovable treasures hidden away past all of the hyped-up games and the more attractive sights on this website, but I'm glad I nabbed it.
Before playing:
Seeing the screenshots, something here looked familiar. I started thinking about a specific 3D platformer and then BINGO. This was the same guy behind The Art of Play. This was a fantastic game, I was sure, despite all of the non-supportive ratings. I dove in immediately and I was gonna get what I wanted.
Graphics:
The game focused plenty of its time on the look of the game. Not everything was original, but the game had style. I award six stars for the artist have a unique, creative style that actually attracted my attention from the very beginning. Spikes and bricks had a unique, fresh look great enough to detract me from the fact that it was cliche.
Sound:
The music, while quirky, was very catchy. I loved some of the artist's compositions.
Gameplay:
One of the most addictive and mouthwatering games I've played so far has one of the most simplistic and non-challenging engines I've ever seen. It baffled me on how low-tech this game was deep inside. Nevertheless, there were no bugs. A lot of the game was a puzzle platformer, which is always great if you're in the mood to solve something randomly frustrating with no clear or explainable solution at all.
Story:
The story was intriguing that it even had multiple possibilities. The characters were able to communicate each other through a short story that left me smiling, shaking my head in bafflement, laughing, and smiling some more. I could actually appreciate the game for having an upbeat, casual storyline with so many strange twists.
Interface:
The word balloons were well-designed along with the typewriter effect. The font itself was artistic, but not very fit for use. The "Y" letter looked a lot like a "T", which confused me for a while.
Overall:
This is a treasure to keep. I give it six strange characters out of six.

Great review. I love this game. I play it and everyweek to recapture that first feeling I got from it and when anyone mentions videos games as an artform i refer them to Psychosomnium.
