Stick Online Review
By 11clock on 30 September 2007

Pros: Solid controls, variety of items, PvP system

Cons: Very poor graphics, repetitive and boring after a while, luck-based drop system, poorly balanced stat system

A decent MMO at best.

Stick Online is one of those rare MMORPGs that you will play for longer than just a month or a week. If you look past the poorly shaded graphics (I personally don't care much for graphics anyways), you'll have yourself a great and addicting experience.

The graphics are cartoon-style. However, this is no excuse for the poorly shaded graphics and dull atmosphere. Plain blue sky and no clouds, yawn.

The best thing about this game is the controls and gameplay. Unlike most RPGs, you aren't just sitting there spamming a single button. You have what's called a stamina bar. All attacks (I mean ALL attacks) require stamina, and when low on stamina you won't be able to attack very much. Also, all attacks have cooldown. This allows for more strategy in your moves. The controls are very responsive and do what you want them to do.

All weapons have only one attack. This may sound bad, but I actually kind of prefer it this way. Much more simple, but lack of combos can make PvP a bit dull.

You have 4 stats: STR, AGI, VIT, and INT. Strength improves your strength (obviously), and is probably the only stat that doesn't require tweaking. Agility improves movement speed, but is not very useful in PvP unless you have a lot of it. Vitality improves your defense and health, and you'll probably spend most of your points in this stat. It's the most useful stat for PvP, but this stat is a bit too useful. 70% of your opponents will be tanks because of this. The most unbalanced stat is intelligence. This improves your mana, but it's so overpowered it isn't funny. You'll only need 6 stat points in intelligence before it becomes unnecessary to add any more. This is probably because the game has never introduced skills/spells.

The PvP system in this game is simple, but works. You can battle someone anywhere you want, and toggle PvP anytime you want to. This allows for unlimited PvP options. PvP is considered to be the core mechanic of Stick Online, and without it, the game wouldn't even exist.

The drop system is by far the worst part of this game. It's based on chance, like in most MMOs, but the drop rates are so low that it isn't funny. You'll be sitting in one spot for hours trying to get the weapon or hat you want, or you can spend only a few minutes. Why not purchase what you want? Because the stores only sell low-quality items that are only good for the first few hours of the game.

There are only 4 sound effects in the whole game (counting the menu), and there is no music whatsoever. Not much to say here.

The interface is decent. It's very user-friendly, but sadly not customizable at all. You can't even organize your inventory!

Stick Online is a decent MMO that will keep you entertained for weeks with its simple gameplay mechanics and solid PvP system. However, lack of interface customization, poorly balanced stats, terrible loot system, and repetitiveness may turn you away.
