Sonic Mystic Machine Review
By Superhydrosonic on 27 July 2009

Pros: Fast-gameplay, the way a Sonic game is supposed to be. Good Storyline

Cons: Hit Precision is decent, but you get stuck a lot. Some Characters aren't explained. Controls are A bit Bad. Sound is muffed

A Must-pay Sonic game

This game is a must-play for Sonic Fans. You have Sonic stopping Eggman along with side villains.
The graphics are good, but personally I think that the 16bit (Sonic Advance) sprites and 32bit(Sega Genesis) sprites don't
particularly go well together. The Controls are okay, but are sometimes hard to use. Even if it's getting that extra jump, or taking it cautiously these controls aren't well for those elements. Also there's the worst nightmare of dieing. Getting hit and having no chance for recovery. This game proves that it is the worst way to die. I've died so many times by this it isn't funny. Now let's getting into this a little deeper. The hit precision is good but getting stuck is the main problem. When fighting Metal Tails, I jumped on him, the old fashion way, but I just got stuck to him...

Now for Characters; Some of them aren't explained enough. I was playing and then the boss came up.It was Demon Knuckles; a fan-character made over the web. WHY? Why was knuckles demon? Was he cursed? What happened? Another Fan-character is Light. A recolor of the 32bit Sonic. I have no problem with recolors, but he just randomly appears in a level, and says he'll help you!!? I'm just saying a little more atmosphere and, let's say color in personality in this character might make him noticable and a little more likable. Another thing is muffed music. Half the time the music is hard to sound out and let's say muffed midis aren't good. Well I can't tell if there midis because I don't listen to midis what-so-ever. One last thing. LAG. I've experienced lag in most levels when going extremely fast. It isn't my computer, because it's maxed out, it's the game. Not a big issue, but noticeable.

I'm done with Cons Now, but ignore the top and let's get on with pros.

Yes, the gameplay is fast like all Sonic games are. Fast games are hard to make and perfect, but this one did good enough to become a pro in this review. Also sometime fun too, go really fast just like the blue blur. Another pro is the storyline. Maybe at first you might not like it having these sentences for ex.
He is falling. Sonic drops emeralds. He's having fun. (Not in game) Is just a little too simple. But as you go on, it get's better and better.
The music is also pretty good and is perfect for the desired areas. And last but not least we have drama!! A character dies in the game, and the music was well suited for it. I actually had my eyes water because of the music designed for it. Well Done, Well Done.

the story was meant to be the same old sonic story at the beginning but progress towards the end. thanks for noticing!

thanks for the review! one of the best i've seen yet!

also, the characters. well, i just put demon knuckles in their for no reason. it wasn't meant to be thought of as knuckles, but thats fine.

light the hedgehog was NOT my character. in the credits it states that he is just a cameo character, with no meaning to the story whatsoever. i dont make recolors.

also, i've never experienced lag, idk what that was O-o

yes the files were midis as i had no other option. mp3's were a no, because of the file size they generate.

    excellent review!

well, the whole sprites issue (genesis verses advance) was just something that i didn't realize until i started getting better at spriting, so i figured i would just leave it :l the death glitch should have been a LITTLE bit better now that i added something to the loop, but it still has its problems.

also, on the metal tails boss, you aren't supposed to jump on him, it should bounce you backwards. you have to spindash at his rockets and send them back at him.
