Pros: Nice game nice story Brings back memories
Cons: Nothing new Ripped music and graphics Could've been much better!
Unexciting Wonderboy fangame.
So what have we here? A nice game with some seriously nice graphics I thought when I saw this game. I downloaded it and unpacked the files and installed the font that was requested. Starting it up and the introduction is quite nice with some smooth fading screens, the titlescreen is showed and the music is really nice with some nice graphics. Starting a new game here and I look at the screen, what do I see? I see ripped SEGA graphics and a game that has some smooth flow, the music is nice and the story is good. But when I start to play the training level it seams like this is a game I've played. Pausing the game and taking a closer look at the screen. Ah it is a game based on the Lizzardmen that is available in the Wonderboy Dragon's trap game by SEGA.
So I continue to play and reach round 1, and what do I see? This is a new level, but it uses the WBDT graphics completely! Same goes with the music. I was kinda impressed with the intro / tutorial scenes, but this doesn't look good enough.
Enemies are quite nice but where are their tactics? The small enemies are detecting the player's position and turn around in the original game where in this semibad game they just don't do a good job.
Conclution: It would be a nice game if you had put some hard time into completely overhauling the graphics instead of using the original tiles. Music is not very good either, and both these facts pulls back my rating of this game. It would've been nicer to see a more unique game. On the other hand the original game has several years on their back, so one can't expect too much, but add more time into this game and it'll be payed back to you in a better gameplay.

I thought the game was good, and I'm calling it a classic fangame. I agree with Chubs, but also remember that most folks that are good with programing Game Maker games, or games in general are not artists, and usually work alone. Finding or making original artwork could be troubling at times considering there are a TON of GM games using ripped graphics. I'm a decent artist myself but I have trouble making humanoid type characters. Characters or NPC's are the most important graphical aspect.

I disagree completely. Although the enemy AI and such may not be quite as good as in the original Wonderboy Dragon's trap, in my opinion this is one of the most professional and truly "complete" Game Maker platform games I think I've ever played. This version could have easily been on the Sega Genesis or SNES and had a large fanbase going for it. It's a fun little game to play, and in my opinion is one of the more underrated Game Maker titles out there. A true hidden gem.
