Prison Maze Review

Pros: Dark and mysterious, good for people who like to spend time trying to figure stuff out, 3D graphics, easy to maneuver
Cons: Unclear controls, no sound or music whatsoever, glitchy at the end, little level variety
Follow the Green Footstep Road
I spent about 20000 steps or so wandering about through the three mazes, and only stopped when I touched the last door and an error box popped up saying that it couldn't transition to the next room since I was in the last room. Oops. Anyways, I think I was able to figure out the controls pretty well, even though they aren't really explained in the instructions. The arrow keys are to move (forward and back, turn left or right), and the maze stays very dark with low visibility until you realize that holding down the left mouse button turns on all the lights (making it a little bit easier for you to figure out where you're going). Once you find green footprints, follow them; they'll usually lead you right to the exit. The graphics are well done for the few textures and lighting effects in the game, but I wish that the flashlight was more of a toggle, rather than having to hold down the mouse button the whole time. On the other hand, it would have been pretty cool if the flashlight just had a battery, so you could only use it for a certain amount of time as a hint feature. The game suggests that there might be a background story or something as to why the heck you are wandering around an empty prison in the first place, but it never surfaces; it's just you and the silence of the darkness. Overall, this is a pretty good maze game for if you have a lot of time to spend, but while the first level was pretty puzzling I was disappointed to find that the last two were almost identical. Still, I think that with more stuff (i.e., more levels, an actual story) put in this could easily become very interesting.

Press the space bar in the beginning for the green footsteps, that's the cheat of the game. I try to keep the story as vauge as possible to increase the mystery factor of the game.
