Duck Hunt Engine Review
By grabeorama on 19 December 2008

Pros: Graphics are o.k. sounds are good, menu looked retro!

Cons: gameplay wasn't great, the ducks' movement was very predictable, you only missed if you shot very near the ducks, You could miss as much as you wanted you would still end up with 10 points rendering the highscores useless. wasn't very fun.

Duck Hunt

Overall it was a small, casual game that you would play for about 5 minutes, but really wasn't my kind of game. There was no real challenge hitting the ducks, their movement was too predictable. Maybe if they suddenly changed direction confusing the player about where they will be next.
You should maybe add lives to give the player a goal. If the player sees that they miss three shots, but all that happens to them is they see a dog, they won't mind missing three shots again! Whereas if they lose a life, they won't want to miss a shot again.
The highscores was pretty pointless as you always finished the game with 10 points. I think a good addition would be to add time. The faster you shoot the ducks, the more points you recieve. Don't shoot the ducks on time at all and you lose a life. That way the highscores would have a purpose and would encourage the player to play again and beat their highscore.

I have dealt a lot on the bad points of the game, but with a bit more work this could be pretty addictive to play. Well done! 2/5

Thanks. The Game can be edited to fit the needs of the designer. The lives were used as your shot counter to 0, then the dog comes, and also you can shoot the dog for laughing at you.
