Enemies Of Gravity Review
By Liquid_games on 17 July 2008

Pros: Good ideas with the different walls, simple to understand gameplay

Cons: Bad blurry graphics, difficult to control

Blurry

My first impression was that the menu made the game strangely thin and the graphics were blurry as well. Not a particularly attractive. There wasn't any feedback when moving the mouse over the menu items which is always a bit disconcerting. However the music was pleasant and gentle to listen to. Then there was the custom message box, something I always like to see, but again there's no feedback moving the mouse of the button. Having the wall text is off putting too, I'd suggest having 2-3 messages instead that spreads the instructions over multiple boxes.

Now the gameplay. The idea of having two objects that must help each other is a little predictable for the co-operation theme, but I liked the idea of one ship having to go through some walls, and the other ship getting the trigger. However the biggest problem I found was how difficult it was to multi-task and control both ships at once. Granted that with two players it would be better, but not many will play this game like that. Fortunately I discovered that by holding down the left/right or 'A'/''D' keys I could make one ship spin on the spot and I could then more easily control the other. A very frustrating thing is that it regularly gets to a point where it's impossible to go up any further as the ships lose all momentum.

Back to the graphics. The game isn't the prettiest to look at, but the blurry and characterless ships were the worst. You should try to sharpen them up, perhaps add a couple of features to them rather than them being generic shapes. Having the same message at the end of each level is a little weird, but that's a minor point.

The score I gave of 3 stars is justified by the fact it has more polish than many other games on this site and I didn't come across any bugs or errors.

I hope you find this review. If you'd like any further suggestions, just let me know.

Oh one more thing, what should I do to add features to the alien ship?

Thanks liquid, I am updating the game for it changing sprites when mousing over. Also, you get used to the multitasking thing my the 15th level or so. About your momentum problem, its a part of the game as the aliens are very angry with gravity. Also, I am adding more features to the graphics, I thought I was going to leave it as a completed game, but some updates will be made, including your problem with the messages, and I am going to add features to the sprites, like wings to the ship.
