Gauntlet Revisited Review
By True Valhalla on 24 December 2008

Pros: Stylised graphics, great sound, a straightforward interface and potentially addictive gameplay.

Cons: Slow initial levels, no built in help.

Spectacular Dungeon Crawl

OK, I've played for a bit now, and I must say I was quite impressed. This game is of very high quality. The gameplay is basic, but it makes for a 'Diablo'-ish feel, which lends itself to addictive game. I hope people aren't put off by the repetitive and generic first 2 levels, because it really starts to pick up after that, and I'm sure it only gets better.

No need to comment on the visuals, as they are obviously very detailed, fitting and clean.

The sound effects were of particular high standards, and as was the interface, which is one of the best designed I have seen in a GM game. The menu system was equally well done, though the slow transitions aren't to my liking. I gave this a 2 for story, since this is more of an action based dungeon crawl than a story telling epic.

The game appears to suit your goals while designing, and even though I haven't played the game this was based off, I suspect you hit the nail on the head.

If I had to make some improvements, I would suggest altering the first 2 levels of the game, making them either smaller or more immersive, and I would add some game tips in these levels too. I only figured out the button for potions when I quit to menu.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this, and even though it'll be hard as hell to beat all 30 levels, I'll give it my best shot big grin

Congratulations!
