Review of: "The Last Ant"

Graphics: 1/6
The graphics were VERY, VERY small, and it was difficult to figure out where you were going. I know the whole thing about compound eyes, but for one, if you wanted to do that, you should have made it first person, and for two, don't let the story and reality take away from the enjoyment. I couldn't tell when there was a passage, or when there was a wall. All the random crap floating around and blinking and flashing was dumb, and having the numbers in front of everything might have added to the suspense and rushed feeling you SHOULD get from this kind of game, but didn't, because of the low and distorted resolution and the music (see the Sound Category). Honestly, this hurt my eyes to play and made it very unenjoyable.

No graphical updates have been made. I tested the new updated version and the big white sprayed out stuff should be changed with the alpha like everything else if that's what you decided to go with here.

Sound: 1/6
There were no sounds, and the music was AWFUL, extremely repetitive, and had no real beat or tune to it. Just noise. Not very good noise, either. Death metal and metal are noise, but good noise, because it is NOT repetitive, and HAS a beat to it. Change the music, or else.

Sounds have been added, although they do not really coincide with the actions you perform to hear them. The music is the same, and still sucks. Change it in your next update. It REALLY sucks.

Gameplay: 3/6
The gameplay was fine, except for the fact that it doesn't seem to match the sort of thing you'd want for this. You made it platformer for one, and you can fly. If you are a queen ant, with tons of eggs, why the heck would you be want to fly around and why would you be able to in the first place? You'd probably want a maze or isometric gameplay to match this sort of game. Also, the mazes were confusing and you weren't given much control information in the beginning of the game. Why is it that when I'd think I had gotten to a winning part, I just dissappear and go somewhere else? Why was this only one level? Questions, questions, questions!

I tried the updated version and even though there is supposedly powerups, I have not found any. I am quite dissapointed, especially because the timer is now faster.

Story: 3/6
Ok, you are the last ant. You might want to give a little more output on that then just "You are the last ant. The humans hate your guts and are wiping your butt off the planet." Give some more detail and depth, like "Many other animals around the globe are going extinct due to a chain reaction. Since ants have died off, many ant-consuming bugs have also died off. Frogs and reptiles have died off. Mass extinction has occured, and you may be the only one who can replenish the animal kingdom's population!", ect. ect. Also, the whole "You are the last ant" thing is a little illogical, due to the fact that you need two of an animal to make another. You may say, "Oh, but wait, she's a queen ant," but you have to actually say that somewhere in the game! And not at the end, either, because then you are like "WTF AM I DOING IF ITS THE LAST ONE? 1+0 ISN'T BIGGER THAN 1!" So, add to the story, give more depth and detail, and actually explain what is going on.

Ok, so you added an ending even when you quit. Wait, now where'd the enjoyment go? What's the purpose of defeating the game if you get the ending when you lose or just quit? Where'd the achivement you want to reach? There is none now! Except, of course, for the "near impossible positive ending" you said you put in at the end. I haven't found it, because I can't even be bothered to try and beat the game.

Interface: 2/6
Ok, ok, so you're going through the tunnels. Of course it's going to be dark and stuff. But the whole "compound eyes" thing only works in the first person. Otherwise, what's the point? It's like an ant is guiding and ant, even though the ant you're guiding is the ONLY ant. So, like, what the heck? Get rid of that, or change to first person. Also, make the resolution bigger! I wouldn't mind going through the tunnels if everything was a bit more detailed for one and bigger for two. Give some detail. It's not very fun looking at a pixelated timer on a pixelated game while playing it. So make the resolution bigger. The clock can stay.

I say this needs a heck of a lot of work to win, and needs to be almost COMPLETELY REDONE.

Hardly any improvement has been made and I can't see any reason to raise the overall rating.

Additional comments:
Please take care when posting your game and adding in any story or written parts. "thae last ant"? I thought that proper spelling and capitalization always said that this is not "thae last ant", but "The Last Ant"! Come on! If you are going to enter a competition, at least spend the time to correct spelling and puncuation and capitalization and grammer!
