Evie and Erebus Review
By Yal on 19 November 2008

Pros: System! Gameplay!

Cons: Lag!

Mystery! Dungeons! All you need!

When I first decided to download it, I was thining 'Geez, 10MB, it's more than Megabot...'
But you actually get more out of it! Since, I managed to get further than the 1st level... I think...

Graphics: 4/5
Nice cutscene artwork, nice sprites, but the monsters are all orbs? They feel repetitve... Only the enemies could do with some improvement, really.

Sound: 3/5
Beautiful, but the big file size makes a slow-down, at least of the download. They really fit the game.

Gameplay: 2½/5
On my computer, it lags ever now and then, so I had problems figuring out if it was waiting that was supposed to happen, if it was the AI, and I also had problems figuring out how to play and when I could act... Until I found the help. It was nice. The moving still feels like it took a lot of turns, though.
Also, Evie had -14HP for about a turn until she died... And she still had turns until Erebus fell, too. That felt weird. And when both of them died (I underestimated the Orbuses -_-), some kind of flashing on the screen took place, then I end up in another place? I don't really get it... Did I fall to the floor below?

Story: 3/5
I didn't clear the first floor, but what I saw looked really promising! I guess there's 3 endings, too. Or maybe even 13?

Interface: 5/5
Neat. Really neat. But the 'enter' icon on messages made me thing that you could press Enter to go on in the conversaion. But that didn't help... Or maybe something's wrong with my keyboard?
Also, I wouldn't mind seeing E&Es HP on the left side of the screen. It was a shock when I saw that '-14'...

Overall Rating: 5/5.
This is a really good game. There should be more SRPGs or TGs, however you abbreviate it, on Yoyo, beacuse they are fun, startegic, and some more things. To all who reads this review, I'd reccomend you to play E&E.

Ah. OK. Nice idea, actually. Makes the levels feel more variative. ^_^

The treasure chests are placed randomly when the room is created. If you were to open them, then leave and come back, the game would remember that they had been opened, but not where they were located.

Thanks for the note. It helps. Um, one more question: are the levels generated randomly? When I was returned to floor 1, there were some new treasure chests... Or did I just miss them the first time?

    And one question of improvement:
Do all enemies have to be orbs? Would it be a bad idea to add hexagons and ♦s and stuff? Just for graphical variation?

I did some last minute tweaking of gameplay, and I suppose there are still some minor bugs to be worked out. I'll get on that.
Note: When you die, you are returned to the beginning of the game, maintaining all your talismans.
    Thanks for the review!
