Pros: A 3D game with above average graphics, an interestin story, addictive gameplay, allies that actually help you.
Cons: Can get annoying having to hike back to wherever you last were, enemies can be hard to kill, having to restart at your last save is annoying especially when coupled with the hiking part.
One of the best 3D GM games out there.
This is a great game, no doubt about it. An excellent story coupled with a flawless engine, great graphics, good music and all in 3D. This is, without a doubt, one of the best 3D GM made games out there. The game itself is not the best, but still pretty darn good. All ratings are on a scale of 1-4 in this review, mainly for the fact that when you write a review, you're only givin four stars to rate each category with for some reason.
Graphics:
The 3D in this game is among the best I've seen yet. While everything has a low polygon count and looks pre-N64, it adds a charm to the game that's hard to get these days. As well as 3D, the 2D interface was well drawn and that gives a bonus to the graphics department as well. 4/4.
Sound:
The sound in the game matched the graphics. Low quality but with a charm in its own special sense. While there are only about 2-3 songs in the game, they don't get repetetive or very annoying. The sound effects were simple and definently locked in the SNES feel. 3/4
Gameplay:
This is the patty in the burger. The gameplay was very fun; blowing up stuff, collecting metal and getting upgrades are always plusses. Now I know you're all sick of hearing how great it is in 3D, but you know what I'm talking about anyway.
However, the biggest plus of this is near the end of the game. You and 25 other ships get to battle it out with Earth's defences to get to a nuclear base. But these guys don't just fighti in the background, do nothing, or diei within 3 seconds, these guys actually fight and they are a BIG help! That's pretty rare in AI's that help you these days, even in--scratch that--ESPECIALLY in commercial games! 4/4
Story:
The story is simple yet originial. Aliens try to fix up our planet for us, but we screwed it up so bad they have to launch nuclear missiles and destroy Earth. Albiet having little plot advancement, character developement or plot twists, the story still deserves a 3/4.
Interface:
The interface was simple yet effective. Four bars on the bottom left corner of the screen show your health, energy, how much ice you have stored and how much metal you have which you can sell. On the bottom right, you see what power you have equipped as well as your backup power you can switch between for easy access. While there's not much else then that, the interface gets a 3/4.
And that is the end of my review of Solution by Snail. Overall, I give it a 4 out of 4 or more accurately, a 9.5 out of 10.
