Battleship Adventure Review

Pros: Gameplay, music
Cons: GRAPHICS (very much so), lack of story, lack of sound effects
Needs polish... Shiny things are always better
Its not horrible; it was actually pretty fun. However, this lacks what we call polish and content. See, the concept is great and is very entertaining, but you've gotta admit its not the most pleasing game on the eye. Polish is all the little things like sound effects, graphics, and music.
Graphics is where, I hate to say it, this game flops. For starters, CENTER THINGS. Most people crave symmetry; give it to them. Start the character and boss in the center of the level. It pleases the eye. Secondly, simply "instance_destroy()"ing an object is almost always a negative. Give it some animation; make it LOOK like its being destroyed. Have enemy blow up or such. Just make sure in that in that case that the explosion grows and the ship doesn't disappear til its consumed but the flames. The other graphics looked, frankly, like they could've been done by a six year-old in MC Paint. Spend a little time on your graphics. Make them look convincing in whatever style you choose to use. Its often the little things are often what make a game worth playing.
Music was done very well and is fun to listen to. Sound effects don't exist, which is generally a negative.
The Gameplay was actually pretty good. Blasting those little green house-like rockets out of the sky was strangely addicting, though it got frustrating that you could only shoot in the direction you were moving and it was a little short, though I understand that is to be continued soon. However, it should be point out that if you just fly straight up firing as many shots as you can, you'll blow a hole through the first two lines of defense and killed the boss in a matter of milliseconds.
The story is nonexistant, so there ain't much to say. However, I don't tend to like stories that simply exist in the "Help". The story is what's happening ingame, so make it happen INGAME. Make the story progress there--or at least explain it there. A good story is often as important as a good game.
The interface was pretty horrid, but because the graphics were pretty terrible. That's about it.
Really, the game wasn't terrible. In essence, it was pretty good. Just work on paying attention to detail; it'll really help you in the long run.
