A long time ago (I guess when this game first came out :P) I was quite intrigued by this game, so I turned it into a screensaver that I used to waste time on my school computer by being hipnotized. I made it fullscreen, set the draw dots to be created at random, and then set the sand sprouts glide every now and then to a new location. It was great for randomness, but I've lost that file awhile ago. I'm thinkin of making my own sand game and try to get over this lag problem with surfaces.

Nothing much I can do to fix the lag without doing something crazy, Game Maker can only handle so many instances in one room. I mean, it's a game with falling pixels, do you really think it's my fault it lags? :)
