EXODUS 5.0 Review

Pros: Gameplay, unlimited continues, Biblical
Cons: The music can feel repetitive.
The classic has returned!
As far as I know, *looks at Wikipedia* Exodus is a NES game, based on the Book of Exodus. Pure naming genius, there. It wasn't released in Europe, which I don't think is that strange: Bilbical games is much more common in the U.S. Perhaps only there people innovative enough to mix two things so different as religion and video gaming? This game, Exodus 5.0, is a kind of 'Lost Levels' for the original NES one. And boy, do it feel NESish?
Graphics: 4 / 5*
Neat and NESish. I specifically love the interface and menu ones. They feel so comfortable, so classic, that it's impossible to not like them. Controlling with arrows and Enter felt as natural as ever the A-Button. Most in-game graphics are more functional than nice, though. But hey, gameplay is always more important thatn graphics.
Sound: 3 / 5*
Nice menu theme. Could be the sequel to Prelude, even! All sound effects are pure beauty. The in-game music is also famous. I know I've heard it before, it's common as a piano lesson. The bad thing with it is that it is indeed, very repetive. Seeing as it is almost the only piece of music you'll hear during the game, it can turn a little annoying.
Story: 4/ 5*
No real twists or turns, but it is indeed from the Bible. I'm not going to give critcism to that, really. The story also is well interwined with the name of every in-game object.
Gameplay: 5 / 5*
This is Biblical Boulderdash, to be honest. And it's really well made, too. You are supposed to collect a certain amount of Mana (I interpreted it as Milk at first, though) as well as some Bible Questions to clear each level. As opposed to the original NES game, though, you don't have to answer the questions to collect them. I'd rater see that as at least an toggleable opinion, since that would make the game able to teach today's youth a thing or two about the Bible, which I take was the original purpose of the original game? Other good gameplay things are the infinite continues, you just lose all of your points when the time runs out or you hit something. Falling rocks topple over things they land on in a pure NESish way, and you will have to think a lot at each level. The saving system is also nice, you can continue from the last visited level. Oh, and you get hints. That's really nice, even though some was too helpful for my personal taste. ^_^
Interface: 5 / 5*
The main menu has everything you need, really. Sereval pages reduces the amount of text you need to read, while keeping all important stuff. There are also a number of things you have, or need to collect, each one shown with a number in the HUD. These numbers, however, was a little small and hard to read. But seeing as you will notice when you've collected everything, that's not THAT important.
Overall rating: 4 / 5*
Play it. You can get Bible education and Boulderdash in the same time. How many games like that are they?
