      why not set up a menu to change controllers.
      using a combo of keyboard_check(anykey) and keyboard_lastkey you can make controls easily customizable by the player. doing so with a game pad requires a bit more ingenuity, but isn't too difficult.

      pretty cool, BUT change the jump button. If I press shift 5 times, a pop-up screen appears. So drop it.
