Sploosh : finding Rose Review
By Yal on 05 May 2009

Pros: Story - especially the plot twist near the end.

Cons: Bosses. All of them.

Very good in a "noobish" way! ^_^

There's a lot of platform games out there. Most are focused on saving a kidnapped girlfriend of the main protagonist. So is "Sploosh: finding Rose". But does those games have a surprising twist in the end? No. But "Sploosh: finding Rose" has one! Having the look of a first game, it's on the verge of beating mine. Especially since this one is completed!

Graphics: 3 / 5
Overall pretty good. Some aren't that good, mostly mis-matched. Like the double cannon boss's missiles, and the tiles in the first area of Magma Field was also barely visible on that background. And the obviously ripped, generic and provided-in-GM's-installation-pack pac-man sprite, it's jsut plain ugly in this context. Why?

Sound: 3 / 5
The magma fields music has a too long intro, as well as one of the boss musics... The ghost that shot purple shots. Since the music restarts when one dies, one only heard the intro for a long time. That's annoying, in my opinion at least.

Gameplay: 3 / 5
Slow, repetitive, but spotlessly performed.

Story: 4 / 5
Especially the twist near the end was really good. And the story of one of the side character, as a playable flashback? Yum. Though, there were some spelling errors (not to mention wrong time forms of verbs in the flashback sequence; and the flashback doesn't really tell us anything about Azuro) so there's room for improvement.

Interface: 3 / 5
The controls can be a bit unresponsive, and there's room for improvement (e.g. by spelling means) in the info file. Also, there's a function to change the background of messages - message_background(). Try that in the sequel, Caleb and Hannah!

Overall Rating: 4 / 5
This must be the best "First Game" I've ever seen.
