Synchronicity Review

Pros: Nice upgrades, chain combos, easy controls, online/in-game high scores, and theme presentation.
Cons: Simple AI/Enemies, lots of bullets, repetitive game play, no save, and not that much help for the player.
The game gets better as you progress.
Graphics:
- The backgrounds fits the theme very well. Simple shapes and blocks, but the animation was decent. There was some beautiful explosions every once in a while. Nice looking bullets and weapon upgrades.
Sound:
- The music fits the theme very well too. Nothing really sounded choppy or out of place. Not many sounds since it isn't a big game.
Gameplay:
- Now there seem to be lot of work put into the power ups and upgrades. Luckily, this keeps the game interesting. The player first starts off with low leveled rate of fire, speed, health, etc. Wave after wave, the more the enemies build up and become stronger, but that's OK. The more enemies you destroy, the more points you rack up, or known as Kb. With Kb, you can buy upgrades, which would make your player stronger. That's what makes this game become better as you progress. If you move your mouse over the enemies, it'll show there health in kB's, a nice touch, but kinda felt unnecessary. The enemies seem to always be the same. Sometimes, it'll throw in couple new looking bad guys. 2 yellow prisms that'll do damage if you try and go between them. The red blocks take some time to take down if your low leveled, I had to to die one time to realize I could shoot them.
Interface:
- Now this game could of communicated better with it's players. There wasn't really any help except how to move, I learned in the options. The mouse buttons just came to me as common sense in the GM world. The space bar took me some time, before I knew I was able to press it once the bottom bar fills up and turns green during game play. The title menu was easy to figure out, but it wouldn't hurt to tell the players how to navigate the most simplest screen in the game. I didn't know at first, that you have to 'equip' once you 'own' a new upgrade.
Overall:
- Though the simple controls, I would of like to see more options for the game, or future releases. Mouse and keyboard is simple, but other options in controls will attract more players to your game, for those who doesn't have a mouse (e.g. Laptops). There was really no save option, since I didn't figure that one out. The 'pause' lagged, I was able to tell it's a screen shot. Random power-ups, led to getting 'double shots' twice, which did nothing. Overall, it was a fun mini-game, but there could of been a few issues fixed to make this a better game.
