Sonic Unleashed 2D™ Review

Pros: Good to see cut-scenes in a fan game, game feels fresh
Cons: Glitches and a few level design problems make getting through levels mind-blowingly difficult
Good update but needs a LITTLE more polish
For the most part Its a pretty good game, but I will admit that there are a lot of glitches that ruin game-play here and there. One of the most common glitches found in Sonic games is that Sonic moves too fast. In this game Sonic moves SUPER FAST but because of that I have no idea whats ahead of me and it usually ends up with me losing a life. The levels also seems like it punishes me for boosting instead of making things easier because I constantly end up running into spikes, falling into a bottomless pit, or blindingly throwing me into the air forcing me to pray that I land on the ground instead of into yet another bottomless pit. Deaths are made a little more aggravating when I find that the game turns itself off when I run out of lives instead of going back to the main menu, forcing me to endure the wait of booting the game back up just to finish a stage. Overall, Its good to see a Sonic fan game that DOESN'T use an extremely popular engine with a fresh coat of paint slapped on it and declaring itself new. I see a lot of potential in this game and will continue to wait with anticipation for the next updated version. Despite its flaws, the game feels "fresh" which is something thats lacking in what seems to be an era of crappy Sonic fan games....
