Pros: Good Graphics, Time warp interesting, Original enemies
Cons: Just another Sonic platformer
Sonic Blast In Time Zone 1
Sonic Blast In Time Zone 1 is a platform game featuring everyone's once most favorite hedgehog. SBTZ is a fan game from B>A>M productions.
The first thing I noticed when I started playing this game was haw much it resembled an average platformer. The terrain consisted of flat blocks and a few straight down slopes. It feels like just a platform game with Sonic included just for popularity. Aside from this, SBTZ delivers what one would expect from an average platformer: jumping, powerups, health, score, etc., but there is a good emphasis on some of the blue blur's moves, such as spin dashing (which controls quite nicely). There is a mechanic ripped straight from Sonic CD which works well too: Time Travel, in which the background and music change.
Unfortunately, there is no speed in the game. You won't see any blast-processing here. As much as I like the small bits of originality, I grow to miss loops and curves. Also, there are a few glitches, primarily after dying and restarting. Some of the music was annoying and the score is sometimes impossible to see.
SBTZ tries to alienate itself from the already growing piles of Sonic fan games, and sometimes it does, but its not great. I admire SonicRspeed's attempt at a good game, but personally, I think a good Sonic fan game (one with 0 glitches, smooth controls, no story, and inventive levels) is impossible.
