Super Painter 2 Review
By Corad on
05 January 2010
Pros: Alot of tools, easy to use interface, does not really require any help to use, well placed sound effects.
Cons: Pencils do not really trace lines but circles and if you go fast it doesn't even do a cicrcle line, interface is a bit plain, music is ripped and were in other games as well, could had maybe use a few more sound effects.
Fun distraction for a few minutes :3
*UPDATE* This reviwe has been revised to fit the screen, which is frustrating as hell-
I remember writing a post on the forum asking if people wanted a
review for their games, well mooglegirl3, after such a long time because of the
forum and my computer who didn't wanted to show my previous posts, this
is what had kept me from doing a review. Today is the
day that i finaly tried Super Painter 2 and tried to find it's strenghs and
weaknesses that i found in the game. I hope you like it.
To begin, Super Painter 2 is obviously, a paint program( or game ).
If you have Microsoft Paint, Fireworks, Paint.net, or Gimp, you know
what i am talking about. The point is, well, to draw whatever you want!
Fortunately, the game gives you over 30 tools ( apparentely, because i didn't
conted them, shame on me. ) to help you draw at your mind's will. For example, you
have simple pens, blend pens, erasers, retro tools, and special tools. Along that you
get 10 music, a few options to turn off some animations
and sound effects, plus the ability to save and load your previous drawing within
three files. But loading and image is like loading an usual game from Game Maker,
meaning that it won't actualy save an actual image. The only way i found to save a
picture, was to make a screen shot, then cut the interest part out of it. It's pretty
sad that you can't save the image, but the fun of making the image makes sure you
won't be too disappointed about this aspect.
Gameplay wise, Super Painter 2 does work for most part. Like the other
painting programs on computers, the only controls of the game is drag the mouse,
and click. Doesn't need to be more complicated than that. Tool wise, some just work
with a simple, repeated click. Some can be dragged like usual. Unfortunately, dragging
a tool(that can be dragged) too fast, will leave spaces depending on your speed. The
faster you go, the bigger the spaces become. This becomes tedious, because you have
to take your time on everything so no spaces occurs. Only a few tools work ok at a faster
speed due to their bigger size. Even thought this flaw aside, the game remains fun with
quite some twists. If you clear the drawing with the animation turned on, everything will get
sucked into a squere like a blackhole. A pretty neat effect that will occupy your eyes,
for about every 2 minutes or 5 seconds. Other than those points, there really insn't
alot to talk about the game's gameplay. It does what it should be doing quite right. so
thumbs up for the gameplay.
The sound is a bit interesting. Some sond effects really matches the tool you are using
, for example, the spray can like tool, whe nyou click, you will hear a "PSSSSHH" sound
, like if you were really spraying something. The bullet sound is recycled from the game
maker sound library, but the explosion isn't whic his
something good because alot of new game makers always use those sound effects,
which gets annoying. Pac-man does the "eating" sound effect whe nhe eats a "paint"
pellet as i like to call them. Other than that, there isn't that many sound effects, which is a
shame because it would had made the game a bit more lively. On the other hand, the music
is average at best and only contains , again, ipped and recycled music(one that i haven't heard
before though). If only the game had more sounds effects and some better music, it would
really be a good experience to remember, because of all the sounds you would had heard.
Unfortunately, sound wise, it is interesting on how the developer used the sounds in an
interesting way "like the spray can tool, like i said", but it feels like the game, could use a bit more of them.
Finaly, the graphics are simple, but yet colorful. Alot of the tools have simple, or
interesting animations to watch(even though they are easy to replicate), and they
can make a drawing really stand out. For example, a cloud of black spining pixels
with two shiny eyes with a moving blob in it( blue bouncy like circles ). Everything
seems well varied and colorful and pleases to the eye. It's a good thing that mooglegirl3
also let's us change the interface's color, because personaly, i don't like looking at
something gray the whole time XD. Everything is placed in groups and at an area
in the screen where it is easy to see and access. The only minor thing is tha tthe
interface feels just plain, it could had used a better looking design.
In conclusion, it is easy to see that mooglegirl3 spent some time making Super Painter 2,
unlike some other game makers who do not even test there games alot for glitches.
The main engine works fine, with only some issues holding it back. The game could
had used some more sound effect and different music. Graphicaly, Super Painter 2 looks
colorful and pleasing, but lacks a good looking design that grabs the player's attention.
It is easy to access and play and will quite intertain you for awhile. The replay
value is pretty high, but the few flaws kinda will not hold the player for as long as
it should be, but still it is pretty high. If you want to try Super Painter 2 out, go ahead!
I can say it is quite fun and you won't really regret it.
Score: 7/10( good )
Good job mooglegirl3

this can also have an awkward inpact on the look of the game :/
Mooglegirl said over 2 years ago
Well, I mean do that AND lower the speed of the sprites themselves, etc. >.>
Corad said over 2 years ago
if you increase the room speed, EVERYTHING will be sped up : /

Wow. o.o Thanks for the super-detailed review! :D Although I usually don't update my games (too lazy), I might increase the room speed to cover some gaps when you draw. I didn't realize how to fix it until a while ago when someone suggested that the room speed be changed.
