war of the galaxy Review

Pros: Graphics Feel Programming
Cons: Controls Story Frame Rate
Pretty good start!
Graphics - The graphics are actually pretty good. The sprites are more than simply blocks, although some of the larger "mother ships" seem to be made of just square rectangles, but things look good. There some extra effects also that make things look nice. The visuals aren't going to blow minds, but that's kind of the nature of home brewed games.
Sound - There isn't much in the variety of sounds. There's the normal crashing and laser sounds, which you'll hear a lot, but besides them, there isn't a whole lot. It's not really a complaint, because in truth there isn't a whole lot else going on screen other than frantic shooting and colliding, so it works.
Gameplay/Story - I thought the game play was pretty neat, and upon playing the first level you almost feel as though you're in a massive space battle in the likes of Star Wars. There's really no story to the game, which is pretty normal for these type of arcade games, but the pacing is wierd. I felt no direction as to what I was doing, what my goal was, why I was going to the next level, why that level was the way it was. The first level is a frantic battle, but the second is just going from point A to point B with a different control scheme where the ship stops moving upon releasing the button, then the third is back to a frantic level.
Interface - The control were fine, but didn't feel natural. If the controls were reversed it'd be much better, but allowing the option of either would be even more improvement.
