for the car, make a car object facing right. then create event set variable FD to 0 and friction to 0.01 or around that. then do keyboard left and set variable FD to relative +5 and also transform sprite angle FD. Do the same for keyboard right but set variable FD to relative -5. then keyboard up move free direction FD and speed whatever(low is best).

for my drifting game, i didnt use scripts. but i have used GM for a while so i know a-lot.
