Thank you for the awesome review - games just like Cauldron, Draconus and Knight Lore were indeed my primary inspiration for this. To all others that think the lighting was kinda crap - this was made back in Game Maker 5.0. It didn't have almost any transparencies, surfaces or sprite scaling/rotation (it SORT of had some of those, but it was *incredibly* slow and buggy), so the whole lighting system is done without any alpha whatsoever. The change in brightness of objects is in fact an animation

This is above and beyond anything one could expect from a Game Maker game, and is in every way a professional effort. With a couple more levels this could easily be a commercial game on a downloadable service or a handheld. Also - this shooter plays more like a brawler than a traditional sidescrolling shoot-em-up, which I thought was refreshingly original.
