Ok boukenka, [SPOILERS] Alrighty, to unlock Special, all you have to do is start a new file and get to inside the whale without killing ANYTHING. Don't worry, if you get as far as the Nuthatch (bird guarding the egg) without killing anything, then he won't be there, and you won't have to kill him. When you get to the whale, it will say your brother isn't home, and then it goes into the Special mode. Enjoy. [/SPOILERS]

You know what's funny? I have heard "you just can't put down this game. you could play this game for hours on end!" about HEAPS of games. but for games like Hero Core, well, for me it is actually true. I ended up playing this game start to finish, and also Annihilation mode from start to finish in the one sitting. Then I beat Hard mode the next day along with the boss rushes. Loved it. Also had some nice secrets too.
